Cartier Tank Américaine 1710

Introduced in 1989, the Tank Américaine draws directly from the Tank Cintrée of 1921, one of the most elegant interpretations of the original Tank. Its elongated, rectangular case is gently curved along its length to follow the wrist, with sleek brancards that frame the dial and give the watch its unmistakable proportions.

This example comes directly from its first owner an Italian gentleman who purchased it at Rocca in Milan in March 1998, and is offered as a full set with box and original papers.

Reference 1710 is the small model in 18k yellow gold, powered by a quartz movement. The white dial is signed ‘Swiss’ only and features the classic Cartier codes: bold Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute track, blued steel hands and the secret signature hidden within the VII. The octagonal crown is set with a blue sapphire cabochon, completing a configuration that is pure, essential Cartier.

The watch is in excellent condition overall, with the case retaining its crisp lines and the dial clean and bright, free from flaws. It is fitted with a generic black leather strap, paired with its original 18k gold Cartier tang buckle, a desirable detail that is often missing on examples of this period.
